"I wouldn't be doing what I am doing today if it weren't for all the gigs I performed around the area, and elsewhere, when I was beginning," remarked Sam Fender. "These venues are iconic, but they are struggling."

From early 2023 onward, at least 150 of these venues have shut down – roughly 16% of the total UK scene.

Recently, major artists such as the band Pulp, the group Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all aided the trust in its initiatives to support the industry, by adding a minor surcharge to their ticket prices, which benefits local stages.

He also took part, generating more than £100,000 on his live tour to assist thirty-eight grassroots venues across Britain.

The money assisted locations that were dealing with possible closure due to difficulties stemming from flooding, blazes and personal losses, as well as licensing issues, court cases and neighbor objections.

Other venues obtained financial assistance in improving facilities and sound and lighting systems that directly benefitted musicians and fans.

"The notion that revenue from performances in major spaces helps the local stages, where it begins for artists like me, is just sensible," Fender has commented.
