Approximately 50 automobiles have been marked with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Vehicles, building surfaces and postal boxes were vandalized, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they reported in a official communication.
Officers report they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday, when a resident discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued liquid.
The substance had been drawn in the shape of a swastika, they stated.
Law enforcement then found many other smeared cars and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are illegal in Germany under regulations outlawing the public display of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement state early analysis show the liquid was likely human blood.
"At present there remains no clue as to its source; authorities are currently not aware of any injuries in relation with the incident," they added.
Municipal representatives stated they were trying "to solve the case" and have requested to the residents for information.
An important representative commented the attack rendered him without words and had to be addressed promptly.
"This incident hits the center of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the far-right terrorist attack five years ago," he stated on online, mentioning the murder of nine people by a gunman targeting residents of migrant background in 2020.
